Veteran staff member Don Price is retiring after thirty-two years of dedicated service to the Marcellus Community School District. Over the course of his career with the district, Price has filled many roles, including teacher, coach, Volinia Outcomes School Principal, Dean of Students, and, for the last twelve years, Athletic Director. Price has always been a champion for kids, both in the classroom and on the field/court. His commitment and loyalty to the Marcellus school community is incomparable, and his passion and talents as a coach and educator will be greatly missed. The Board accepted Price’s resignation in May and extended thanks and well wishes to Price in his next life chapter.
On May 13, the board approved the hire of Wendell Hughes as Marcellus Community Schools’ Athletic Director, effective July 1. Hughes earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts, with a major in Sports Management and a minor in psychology, from Central Michigan University. He also holds a Masters of Science in Sports Administration from Arkansas State University. Hughes brings with him a wealth of experience, including four years as Fennville Public Schools’ Director of Athletics and Community Recreation and two years at Burr Oak.
In his spare time, Hughes enjoys participating in demolition derbies, coaching, and spending time with his wife, Tori, and daughter, Raena. While Hughes start date is in July, he has already been in the district meeting some coaches and staff, attending some athletic contests, and working with Price on a transition plan. Hughes is excited to begin his work with student athletes and coaches. Please welcome Wendell Hughes to our Wildcat community!
