Superintendent's Article

May and June are among the most fun and memorable months of the year.  From celebratory and senior recognition events to commencement, there are exceptional moments that will live forever in the memories of our Wildcat families.  I am proud to be a small part of the great things happening at Marcellus Community Schools!

The FFA Awards Banquet was held on May 28.  Under the direction of Adviser Mrs. Abby Asmus, Chapter officers Abby Asmus, George Chamberlain, Lyssa Robson, and Sierra Bartow facilitated the program (Treasurer Carlyn Deer was unable to attend).  Chapter Degrees were awarded to Sierra Bartow, Carlyn Deer, and Lyssa Robson, and Greenhand Degrees were presented to Ariah Evans, Morgan McClain, Seth Newland, Drew Robson, Braden Wilson, and Allyson Wright.  In addition, several students, including Abigail Asmus, Kylie Kozik, Lyssa Robson, Allyson Wright, Noah Bohan, George Chamberlain, Drew Robson, and Braden Wilson were recognized for their participation in Floriculture or Ag Mechanic Career Development events.  Special recognition was given to adults Joyce and Jeff Tone and Stephanie Robson for their outstanding support and contribution to the Chapter.  Finally, FFA seniors Seth Newland, George Chamberlain and Abby Asmus (pictured above) were honored and presented with commemorative gifts.

Another special recognition event was held at Southwestern Michigan College (SMC) on May 29.  Marcellus High School seniors who were dual enrolled at SMC and earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 were invited to the Senior Recognition Night where they and their parents enjoyed a lovely meal, were greeted by SMC President Dr. Joe Odeneald, and treated to guest speaker and Marcellus High School alumna Courtney Matthews’ poignant presentation before the honorees received their certificates.

In a very special event, Volinia Outcomes School hosted graduation on May 31 when sixteen Volinia seniors walked across the stage to accept their diplomas.  Congratulations to Kyaine Baldwin, Brynn Bowen, Emily Bunch, Camden Cavender, Alexa Fricke, Conner Gray, Isidoro Hurtado Jr., Sunshine Lowery, Bryce Neumann, Dayana Noyola, Hunter Ottinger,  Avery Reiff, Cameron Sikkenga, Emily Smith, Claire Starrett, and Keegan Weber,  the Volinia Class of 2024!

On June 2, before a packed house, the Marcellus High School Class of 2024 graduated in grand style. Clad in their caps and gowns, the seniors were welcomed by the band’s recessional and remarks from Principal Wagner. The top ten seniors were recognized, a senior video was presented, and Class President George Chamberlain, Salutatorian Parker Enright, and Valedictorians Addison Curtis, Clare Flory, and Meredith McWilliams addressed their classmates.  The event concluded with a jubilant cap toss and a bit of confetti!

Marcellus Community Schools is abundantly proud of our Marcellus High School and Volinia graduates.  Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
