On January 26,  David DeCou was inducted into the Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held at the Crown Plaza, in Lansing.

Decou served as Marcellus track coach for nearly five decades.  DeCou’s distinguished coaching career at Marcellus began in 1974.  Among his numerous accomplishments include ten league championships, two regional championships, and  Regional Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019.

In addition to coaching track, Decou also twice served as Marcellus High School Athletic Director, boys and girls’ cross county coach, and taught English, government, and economics to countless Marcellus High School students.   In September 2022, DeCou was inducted into the Marcellus Athletic Hall of Fame, and the Marcellus Community School board dedicated the high school track in DeCou’s honor.

In his acceptance remarks, DeCou thanked the administration, staff and students of Marcellus High School and said, “In all my years, I never won a race; it was the kids who did all of that. Marcellus has good kids who are surprisingly fast!” Decou also thanked his family for their years of patience and support.

Marcellus Community Schools and our entire community have been extraordinarily fortunate that Dave DeCou chose Marcellus to share his great talent, intellect and character.  Congratulations, Mr. DeCou, on a well deserved induction into the MITCA Hall of Fame!
