Superintendent's Article

Over the last few years, students throughout Marcellus Community Schools district
have been using a supplemental program called Imagine Math to help bolster their math
achievement. The online program provides individualized math lessons that
complement the district’s math curriculum. The program also provides real-time access
to online math teachers should an enrolled student desire additional assistance.
Imagine Math research indicates that students who spend at least forty-five minutes and
complete two lessons per week show greater achievement in math and on standardized
tests than their non-user peers.
I am pleased to recognize Ms. Kristin Leduc and her 4th grade math class for
earning recognition as an Imagine Math November Classroom of the Month. Leduc’s
class is one of only thirty classrooms in the state to earn the accolades. Her students
consistently met the Imagine Math goals throughout the month. Great job to Ms. Leduc
and her 4th grade students!
In other news, the holiday season is upon us and Marcellus Community Schools is
celebrating with several events and festivities. ‘Tis the season to mark your calendars
for upcoming school holiday events!
Marcellus Elementary School will host their annual, fun-filled first and second grade
musical on December 7. Performances take place at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., under
the direction of music teacher Joe Lekan. The students and staff love a large audience
so make your way to the elementary gymnasium and be prepared to smile!
On December 14, Marcellus Elementary will host the Santa Express. Students will
be able to browse the Santa Shop to select a gift for their parents or immediate family
member. Forms were sent home with students last week. Most gift items can be
purchased for a dollar. Elementary kids learn the joy of giving and are always excited to
participate in this annual school event. Any family who is in need of assistance to
permit their child’s participation can contact me at 269-646-7655 or via email at
npauley@marcelluscs.org.
Santa will visit Marcellus Elementary the morning of December 19. Each child will
have the opportunity to have his or her picture taken with Santa. Participation is not
required; parents may contact the school office at 646-9209 to opt out of the event.
Finally, the Marcellus Music Department will present their Holiday Band Concert on
December 18, at 7:00 p.m. Mark your calendars for this excellent annual holiday
tradition that features the talents of our hard working six through twelfth grade band
students. The program takes place in the high school gym. I hope to see you there!
Happy Holidays!
