Marcellus Elementary’s Veterans Day Assembly was held last week. I am proud to be part of a village and school system where students, educators, and community pay tribute and express deep appreciation to our veterans. I am abundantly grateful for and moved by our veterans' participation in the annual assembly. Their involvement helps teach and promote important lessons and values that our community holds dear. To our veterans, I extend my deepest appreciation for your past and continued service to our country and community.
To the students and staff of Marcellus Elementary, I applaud you! Like many others, I was touched by Principal Bischoff’s opening remarks, the students’ enthusiastic performances, and the recognition of individual veterans who participated in the program. I was particularly amazed by the five youngsters who spoke at the assembly. Public speaking is not an easy task for most people, but students Amelia Lapham, Mason Smith, Allie Bent, Abigail Collins, Mariah Price, Julia Klein, and Lundyn Kahler nailed it. All were articulate and poised as they addressed the crowd of over three hundred people!
In other news, the Heritage Southwest Intermediate School District (HSISD) invites business owners, parents, educators and community members to be a part of a crucial initiative aimed at enhancing Career and Technical Education (CTE) within Cass County’s School Districts. Over the last several weeks, the HSWISD organized a series of five focus groups throughout the county. The purpose of these focus groups is to gain valuable insights that can help shape the future of CTE programs. The last of the focus group meetings will take place on November 16, from 6:00- to 7:30 p.m., at the Marcellus High School Cafeteria.
Finally, congratulations to Marcellus High School senior Talan Heimstra who signed to play volleyball at Southwestern Michigan College! On Friday, November 10, the athletic department hosted a signing event to recognize Heimstra’s accomplishments.
