Superintendent's Article

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) requires states to report information on each school district's performance on specific special education targets outlined in the State Performance Plan.  The Special Education Annual Performance Report (APR) was recently released to all Michigan school districts and reflects performance data reported in school year 2020-21.  The report provides districts with a performance snapshot on indicators reported in the APR.

I am proud to report that Marcellus Community Schools met performance targets related to discipline, graduation and dropout rate, the educational environment, and secondary transition.  The one target that was not met was related to timely IEPs.  Still, Marcellus Community school reached 99.07% on that target.  In addition, the Michigan Department of Education’s Office of Special Education recognized the efforts and achievements of Marcellus Community Schools in developing secondary transition plans for students with an individualized Education Plan (IEP).

The board, administration, teachers and staff strive toward continuous improvement and are pleased with the recognition.  The APR and recognition serve as evidence of the good work being done by Marcellus Community Schools’ faculty and staff. Special education teachers Shannon Lehew, Kyle Townsend and Brooke Osbeck deserve extra recognition for their tireless efforts to ensure all students achieve.

Great things are happening at Marcellus Community Schools!

In other good news,  Marcellus Elementary’s third graders were fabulous in their recent performances of Bugz!  An enthusiastic crowd of parents, staff and students enjoyed the May 18 musical directed by teachers Joe Lekan, Ann Smith and Jennifer Shannon.  Great job Marcellus third grade teachers and students!
