The month of March brings with it several important and exciting events.  Please mark your calendars for upcoming activities, including the March 6 MSBOA District 6 Band and Orchestra Festival at Paw Paw High School.  The high school band is scheduled to perform at 9:00 a.m., and the middle school band will perform at 11:45 a.m.  The event is open to the public, so come out to hear some amazing performances and support the spectacular Wildcat Middle and High School Band!

On March 12, the Marcellus Athletic Department will host Winter Sports Awards.  All middle school and high school winter athletes and their parents are invited to meet in the gymnasium at 6:00 p.m., before dividing up and moving to specified rooms where coaches will present awards.  The program serves to recognize the commitment of parents, athletes, coaches, boosters and volunteers throughout the winter athletics season.

Please plan to attend the Volinia Maple Festival on March 23.   Volinia Outcomes School students and staff will host their annual pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.  The students and faculty take great pride in producing the delicious maple syrup and volunteering at the annual breakfast.  Tickets are seven dollars and three dollars for kids under age ten.

Marcellus Drama Club will present The Lion King, Jr. at 7:30 p.m. on March 23 and at 2:00 p.m. on March 24.  Under the direction of Misty Welburn and stage manager Coroline O’Toole, the event will showcase the talents of many middle and high school students.  Tickets will be sold at the door and are five dollars for adults and three dollars for those aged twelve or under.

In other news, it is with great Wildcat pride that I watched the excellent FFA Demonstration Team compete in the state contest held at Michigan State University last Thursday.  The team of Abby Asmus, Lyssa Robson and Seth Newland drew the 8:00 a.m. time slot and performed flawlessly!  Our Marcellus team, under the very capable coaching of Mrs. Abby Asmus, came away with some great-looking hardware after winning 2nd runner up.  Congratulations!

In other great news, the Marcellus Middle School’s eighth grade spelling bee team won first place at last Friday’s Heritage Southwest County Spelling Bee!   The seventh grade team took second place, while the sixth grade team won third.  Great job to Coaches O’Toole and Rogers and to all of our spellers!  Pictured are the eight grade spelling team members Elin Essex, Alexis Reyna, Emma Caudill, Lucy Hughes, and Zayn Reiter.

Finally, congratulations to coaches Sam Adams, Trenton Kane, Ash Stokes, Bruce Allen and grapplers Gabriella Allen and Madisyn Harrison on qualifying for the state finals. Special congratulations to Allen for reaching the championship match for the fourth consecutive year!  Wildcat Pride!
