Final Farewell-from Mrs. Cropsey

A Final Farewell

Dear Marcellus Middle School Families and Community,

As we wrap up another incredible school year, this June brings a massive milestone for me personally. After much reflection, I have decided to retire at the end of this month. It is bittersweet to say the least, but it is finally time for me to "graduate" from middle school.

My journey into education actually started completely by accident. Back in 1997, I was a Western Michigan University graduate with a degree in biology, and entering the classroom had never even crossed my mind. If someone had told me back then that I would end up in education, I would have laughed. I assuredly would have told them it wouldn't be in a middle school! But that year, Mary McCrumb, the middle school principal asked me to step in and try substitute teaching.

That single request changed the entire trajectory of my life. What started as a temporary assignment turned into a 29-year love affair with middle school education. I quickly developed a deep appreciation for the unique energy, humor, and potential of middle school students. As I have told many people, middle schoolers are my favorite. Looking back over nearly three decades, I cannot imagine having done anything else with my life.

I feel profoundly blessed to have spent my career here at Marcellus Community Schools. We truly have the absolute best students, families, and community members. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support, your partnership, and for trusting me with your children over the years. This community has made my career incredibly rewarding.

While I will deeply miss the daily routine and the halls of MMS, I am excited about the new chapters ahead. I am looking forward to spending much-needed time with my family, finally getting to dig deep into my garden, and doing some traveling.

I look forward to seeing students and families at school sporting events and around town. Thank you all for a wonderful career and for being such an integral part of my life.

Wishing you all a safe, happy, and wonderful summer!

With deep gratitude,

Tracy Cropsey
