To celebrate Marcellus Elementary, Middle and High School’s Reward School designations, a fun-filled assembly was held on March 15. School principals planned the event to congratulate and salute students and staff for the extraordinary success on state assessments and other measures. The assembly featured games, cheers, giveaways, and lots of Wildcat pride. Marcellus Community Schools is proud of our kids, educators and our entire school community.
In other great news, I am pleased to report that the Michigan Wrestling Association (MWA) recently recognized our Marcellus grapplers for their academic success. Our Wildcat wrestlers earned Division IV Team Academic All State Honors! Congratulations and kudos to the Marcellus Varsity Wrestling Team.
I am also thrilled to report that Marcellus High School senior Clare Flory recently signed to play softball at Ohio Northern. Flory’s signing event was held in the Marcellus gymnasium, on March 1. A large group of family, friends, school staff, and coaches attended the signing and recognized Flory’s accomplishments on the field and as a role model for her peers and Wildcat youth. Pictured below are Clare Flory and parents Breck and Bill Flory.
In other news:
Marcellus Community Schools applied for a Section 23g- Mi kids Back on Track grant. The Michigan Department of Education recently notified the district of our eligibility. That means the district will be able to offer additional interventions and tutoring during the school day for several elementary and middle school students. Parents whose children will be invited to participate in the extra tutoring opportunities will be notified by their building principal. We are excited to be able to offer this program with a goal to provide extra support toward students’ reading and math achievement.
The Marcellus Athletic Council is composed of varsity coaches, the Athletic Director, two school board members, the high school principal, and Superintendent. The council meets periodically to discuss athletic policies, collaborate on ideas to improve Marcellus Athletics, and to share perspectives on season accomplishments. On March 12, after a spectacular Sports Recognition Night, the group came together where members highlighted team and individual student athlete achievements. I appreciate the extra efforts, positivity, dedication and long hours of Marcellus coaches and athletic department officials.
